A Winning Weekend for CPC Basketball

Basketball

This past weekend our Lady Lions traveled to Ottawa to take our division rivals, Capital Courts Academy.  CCA came out very energetic and aggressive, which put CPC in a hole.  But with the spectacular frontcourt play of Aaliyah Edwards, Latasha Lattimore, and Kayla Drummond, we were able to forge a massive comeback which was enough for the win.  The final score was 80-78.  On day two we went up against Louis Reil who was clearly outmatched.  The final score of that game was 58-44.

The Crestwood Junior Prep Boys’ Basketball team finished in 4th place at the 12 team Junior Crusader Classic held at Henry Carr.  On Thursday, the boys split their two games, beating Vaughan 77-68 and losing to d’Youville 73-67. In a weird turn of events, all teams went 1-1 in the 3-team pool, and Crestwood won the tie-breaking. This sent the Lions into the semi-finals against an undefeated Thornlea team.  The Junior Boys trailed by 18 at half to Thornlea before roaring back to close the gap to 1 point with 15 seconds left. After a foul, Thornlea made one of two free-throws to lead by 2 with 5 seconds remaining. Mikkel Tyne raced down the court and got a shot off before the buzzer, but it was not meant to be as it bounced off the back of the rim. In the 3rd place game, the Lions struggled to get going and fell 71-49 to Oakwood. Mikkel Tyne was named an all-star for the 2nd straight tournament after averaging 21 points per game.  Immanuel Oludele added 11 points per game, while Kailon Nicholls added 10 points per game.  The Lions will be back in action today and Saturday at the first ever National Junior Circuit event. The NJC will feature the best junior teams from across Canada. Games will be played at Thornlea Secondary School.
