Black History Month Guest Speaker

On Tuesday February 24th, the grade 8’s attended a workshop given by Shelley Hamilton, educating them about Black History Month from a Canadian perspective.  Ms. Hamilton used musical and spoken word to enlighten students about the history of her roots as were passed down to her from her Nova Scotian ancestors.  The workshop included how music shaped the Black experience in Canada in slavery, the church, and the community.  Ms. Hamilton gave incredible musical performances and demonstrated how music can impact lives.  This was an interactive workshop which allowed students participate in various musical interludes.  Mrs. Pagano, Ms. Klein and the grade 8 students would like to thank Ms. Hamilton for an experience they will not soon forget.
