Crestwood bests Sterling Hall, Crescent, Montcrest, and Albert College

Rugby

The U14 Rugby Team competed in their first tournament at Cherry Beach. The boys played a fantastic three games, improving as a team as the day grew on. Samir Bagher Nejad scored CPC’s first try, as he literally plowed through the opposing team. Although the boys had possession of the ball 80% of the time, Greenwood College prevailed and won the first game.

The second game was an exciting match, where Samir scored two more tries. The opposing team was not immune to the infamous “Jet Lam Attack”, where Captain Jet Lam made some hard tackles. Even with these great plays, the boys still came up short and lost to RSGC.

The final game of the day was one for the books. Tries were scored by Mateo Rocha and Jet Lam, making the final score against Sterling Hall 15-10 for Crestwood.

The Junior Boys Rugby Squad also had their first games at Cherry Beach, showing some incredible feats of athleticism. The boys played three very tough matches, winning their first game with miraculous tries and impeccable defense. A hard fought game against a massive team from Ridley College saw them fall short of a win, but with huge hits from Adam Bounsell and Rhys Malisch, the boys held proudly.

The final match was extremely close, just barely letting the win slip through their fingers on a goal line stand off a penalty play. Hats off to Jonas Weissland for his plethora of full field tries and acts of heroism!

The senior boys rugby team started off their season with 4 solid games at home.  All games were hard fought, close battles.  Tries were scored by Ryan Mann, Braden Harris, John Mainprize, and Ty Ellis.

Ultimate Frisbee

Our Lions faced off against the co-ed combo of Crescent and Havergal. After a rocky start, Crestwood regrouped and made some excellent plays. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to secure a win against such an experienced team. We saw some fantastic defensive plays by Norris Chung, Joseph Zuckerman and Faith Joseph. Our strong offensive game was lead by Laura Chu, Ella Lee-O’Rourke, Alex vonWersbe, and Mohamed Basha.

Badminton

The Senior boys Badminton Team won all their matches against the Crescent Badminton team at Crescent school.

Congratulations to all our determined players who put a fierce pressure on their opponents smashing through their defense.

Boys single 1 Gavin Wei won 2 matches to 0

Boys single 2 David Huang won 2 matches to 0

Boys Double 1 Sunny liu and Jerry Shen won 2 matches to 0

Boys double 2 Richard Chen and Dean Sun who fought in a nerve-shredding deciding match defeating the other team 2 games to 0

Softball

The U14 Boys Softball team opened their season in style, with a big 18-3 victory over Albert College.

Alex Korda powered the offence with a 5 RBI day, including a home run.  Ethan Adler, Ethan Gazer, and Josh Moozer provided excellent defense throughout the game.

Great win boys!

Soccer

The Varsity girls soccer team opened up the season in thrilling fashion, as they picked up a point against the visiting Toronto French School 4-4.

Once the Lions settled into their positions, they were able to generate some brilliant attacks. Opening up the scoring was Julia Lee, who laced a shot by the TFS keeper just a few minutes into the game. TFS picked up momentum and was able to keep the score close. Until Areej Burgonio rifled a shot near post, too hot to handle for any keeper, brought us back into the game. Sam Mintz, also found her way into the 18 yard box, to tie things up for CPC once more. However, TFS quickly countered to make the score 4-3. With just 2 minutes left, Julia Lee was able to bend it like Beckham into the net, off of a corner kick to finish the game 4-4.

Coaches Williams and O’Connor were impressed with the resilience in the face of adversity and ability to remain competitive throughout the entire game. They look forward to our next home game on Wednesday, May 3rd vs. Trinity College School.

The U14 Girls soccer team kicked off their season yesterday afternoon with a convincing 5-1 win over visiting Montcrest. Our girls pressed well and created turnovers in the opposing end, allowing our attackers good scoring opportunities. Ella Rival netted four goals on the day, while Kyra Grossman scored once.

Kudos to all the team, from front to back, on an impressive debut!

The team’s next match is on Thursday away at Holy Trinity School.

Go CPC!

Track and Field

The Crestwood Track and field team had a great day at the Campion track meet in Etobicoke on Thursday. The sun was shining and the team performed very well. Highlights included the senior boys hurtling the water barrier in steeple chase, Josh Haughton winning two bronze and one silver medal in senior boys high jump, triple jump and long jump and Alexa Gibson winning gold in Jr. girls javelin while setting a new competition record with a throw of 31.48 meters!
