Attention to all students wishing to volunteer at the Sporting Life 10K this year – go to see Ms. Dickinson in Room 104. Please come and support a great cause!

Also, any students interested in the Journey to Conquer Cancer Run/Walk, there are various opportunities to volunteer from June 14th-18th. See http://runorwalk.ca/Volunteer.aspx for more details.

Community Hours

The government requires all high school students to complete 40 hours of community service in order to be awarded their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Now, as we near the end of the year, it is important that students come up with an action plan on when and how they will be completing their hours.  Students should aim to have the 40 hours complete prior to starting Grade 12 in September.

If students have already completed hours, please ensure to bring in the “Proof of Community Involvement” forms. These forms should be brought to the main office, upon which the hours will be entered into our system. Students can receive a photocopy of this form before it is entered into your Ontario Student Record. If you require additional forms, they may be picked up in Guidance.

While there are many opportunities for student involvement in the community, one particular website is very useful when searching for specific positions. Students are encouraged to visit www.volunteertoronto.ca, a website developed by the Toronto District School Board to assist high school students in obtaining their 40 hours of community service. The website is easy to use, and very accessible.
