It was a busy and successful week to Crestwood Athletics this week! Read on to see pictures and outcomes for this week’s games:

Cross Country

The U14 cross country team had a great race at the Sunnybrook Cross Country meet. The team ran well with many personal bests.  Special mention to Kyra Grossman who came 2nd in her race! Congratulations to the whole team!

Volleyball

The Lions traveled to Country Day School and faced one of the strongest teams yet. This team appeared to have many talented players, but the Lions did not make this win easy for CDS. At one point in the second set, they recovered from a 10 point deficit and narrowly lost the set. Although the Lions battled hard, they dropped the game in 3 close sets. The Lions will have to shake this off quickly though, as they are playing host to Holy Trinity School. Come cheer on your squad! Go Lions!

The Junior Boys Volleyball Team did it again! The boys traveled north to Country Day School, and won the match 3 sets to 0. Our shout-outs go to Kian Torabi for his killer serves that CDS had trouble returning, Sean McNamara for his leadership on the court, and Matthew Nelsons for a fantastic dig and great serves. Keep up the awesome work boys!

Basketball

Wednesday afternoon the Senior Girls Basketball team played their third game of the season against Pickering College. The girls picked up where they left off last game playing a very strong two way game.  The offense was controlled by Areeg Burgonio scoring 34 pts, Willa Easton with 4 pts, Jahnai Brown with 10 pts, and Sydney Steinman scoring 6 pts. On the defensive side of the floor Samantha Mintz was unstoppable- her hustle and strong rebounding contributed to the victory. The girls go into their next  game with a 2-1 record and are heating up at the right time.

The U14 girls basketball team travelled to Hamilton to play Hillfield Strathallan College.  Once again the girls showed up ready to play and dominated the game from start to finish.  CPC won the game 56-31 with special mention going to Shayeanne Day-Wilson who scored 23 points and to Schymera Samuels who scored 18.  Great work girls!

Soccer

The U14 Boys soccer team played its first home game of the season – and what a memorable game it was! The boys triumphed over the visiting Crescent team 8 goals to 1, as it pressed Crescent relentlessly, creating several turnovers which our attack of Jesse Codron, Mateo Rocha and Dustin Silverberg took full advantage of. At the end of the game Jesse scored four of our goals while Mateo and Dustin notched two apiece.

The midfield, defense and goaltending were no less spectacular employing simple measures to keep the ball upfield and the visitors off the scoresheet. A special thanks to all those in attendance, including students, family and friends and teachers. The team’s next game is against the York School on the 13th. Go CPC!!!

The senior boys soccer played against their York Mills rival Bayview Glen. Despite CPC’s dominating possession style game, Bayview Glen scored first off a quick counter attack. CPC rallied together to create numerous scoring opportunities but wasn’t until Spencer Cohen showed poise and skill in the 18 yard box to put one away and tie the game 1-1. Shout outs go to Aren Karfashian and Cole Morrison, for their powerful presence and Julia Lee for her masterfully placed crosses. CPC’s next game is vs. the leagues top ranked team UCC on Monday October 17th, be sure to come out and support our team!
