Brynn Bennett was born in Toronto in 1984, where he grew up in the city’s Etobicoke borough. He attended York University and decided to join the Canadian Forces in 2008; he felt motivated by the images he saw of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan and wanted to do his part in the service of the nation. He ended up in the Armoured Corps, training in Gagetown, New Brunswick. His first deployment came in Operation Unifier, where he was stationed in the Ukraine and involved in training Ukrainian troops for a potential war that of course was to come. A return to Canada followed, where he did the domestic deployment Operation Lentus, looking after flood control eastern Ontario. A mission to Canada’s Arctic – Op. Nanook Nunalivut – followed, with the mission emphasis being security and sovereignty in the region. Brynn learned many valuable lessons on that mission, many of which came from the Arctic Rangers, and they included a range of invaluable skills essential to survival and mission success in the Far North. Brynn continues to serve in the Canadian Forces, where he and other officers navigate the many paths they have to follow, including balancing family and work life. In March 2025 Brynn was stationed at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto, and he took some time off to visit Mr. Masters’ Politics 12 class.
