McCormack, Stan

Stan McCormack was born July 14, 1936 in Oshawa, Ontario.  He grew up just outside that community during the wartime and postwar years.  After high school he worked for General Motors for a time before enlisting in the military; he also married Lois in 1953.  Stan chose the RCAF and he became an avionics technician in the 1950s, a time when the Cold War was starting to escalate.  He and Lois ended up in West Germany for three years when Stan was posted to 4 Wing in Baden-Soellingen; they started their family there.  In 1959 they returned to Canada, where Stan was posted to CFB Cold Lake, Alberta.  He remembers the living conditions there as being very substandard; things did improve when new PMQs were constructed, and away from that Stan remembers a positive social life.  He left the RCAF after almost 12 years of service of keeping those jets running and watching his family grow.  Stan McCormack was interviewed by Scott Masters at Bobcaygeon Legion # 239  in March 2025.
