Insightful Visit by CNIB

As an extension of our Biography Unit, with a focus on Louis Braille and Helen Keller, we hosted guests from the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind). During lunch, two members of the CNIB facilitated an experiential learning activity to help students understand the perspective of a person who is blind or visually impaired. The students were blindfolded and provided with strategies to eat lunch without their sense of sight. We reflected on the challenges and successes that they experienced. After lunch recess, 2 CNIB ambassadors and their seeing-eye dogs visited the grade 3 classes to share their experiences and answer questions. Our students were engaged, respectful and they asked great questions! It was an insightful and inspiring afternoon! Crestwood made a donation to the CNIB to support their amazing work! Thank you to everyone who attended.
