Oral History Project – Don White

Mr. Hawkins and Mr. Masters’ Grade 10 History students are meeting with World War 2 veterans every Sunday over Zoom, as part of their studies of this important period of Canadian and world history.  It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to meet and interact with the men and women of this generation!

Last week we met with 99-year old Betty Webb, a British decoding specialist, and Ken Lett, who was an RCAF Spitfire pilot during the war. This weekend, on Jan. 23, we are seeing Don White, who fought to liberate Italy and the Netherlands from 1943-45.  All Grade 10 Canadian History students must attend one of these sessions and then complete a thank you card to the veteran.

The remaining sessions after this week take place on Sunday, Jan. 30 and Feb. 6, and Monday, Feb. 7.  Please email Mr. Masters (scott.masters@crestwood.on.ca) if you are interested in meeting these members of the “Greatest Generation”.
