Sports Update

Crestwood’s Varsity Boys Softball team had a big, come from behind 8-7 victory over Villanova College. After falling behind early after a big 3rd inning from Villanova, the boys fought back, chipping away at the lead until finally taking it themselves in the final frame.  A no-run last half of the inning sealed the win, which was a full team effort. Special mention goes out to Tymon Weinstein, who had a big bounce back game after a rough pitching outing last Thursday.  Andrew Edwards, David McCall, and David Hagon spearheaded the attack, each with a pair of hits and strong defence throughout the game. Wish the boys luck this coming Wednesday, May 20th, as they make a welcome return to the playoffs!

The U14 boys Rugby team hosted TCS in their regular season finale. The boys came into the game hoping to improve on their season record and overall skill level. Although the team got off to a rough start, the boys had a great first half and came close to scoring a few tries. In the second half, the team crossed the try line twice after some big runs from Michael Di Battista, Sam Frigerio and Jonah Benmor. Thanks to all the members of the U14 rugby team for a great effort! Good luck in next week’s playoffs.

The U14 Girls soccer team continued its winning ways in convincing fashion as it trounced Villanova College 7-0 in its quarter final playoff match. The resounding win came compliments of a stellar effort by the full backs and midfielders who kept Villanova to only one shot on goal the entire game, and two goals apiece by Chloe Zuckerman, Sydney Tytel and Angelina Audette. Alexa Gibson went on to record her third shutout of the campaign and also scored her first goal as goalkeeper- turned- striker The girls now march on to the semi finals next Wednesday against an opponent as yet to be determined. Congratulations to the Senior Boys rugby team who clinched first place in the league!  We started the day off against the host school Albert College defeating them 31-10.  Try scores were Bennett Harris, Benji Gertin, Aiden Reilly and Will Malisch.  In our second match we faced Pickering College and defeated them by a score of 17-0, Andrew Gdanski played his best game of the season scoring 2 tries in this match.  In our final game of the day we faced the defending champions Rosseau Lake.  It was a battle and the game went back and forth the entire time.  With seconds running out we were down 1 try. On the final play of the game, Rosseau kicked the ball to Bennett who single handedly ran the ball 70 meters to score a try and tie the game.  Bennett put the game away with a 2 point conversion, giving CPC a 12-10 win!  The boys head into the Championships next Wednesday in first place.
